The Day
Zena and Cliff kept things simple and let the venue do the heavy lifting. Getting ready in the hotel suites meant no long drives, no logistics stress just a calm morning that set the tone for everything after.
The ceremony in the Wayne Gretzky Ballroom had that modern, uncluttered feel the Marriott is known for. No fuss, no over-styling. Just the two of them, their people, and a space that didn’t need much more than good light and a few well-placed florals.
What I appreciate about a ballroom setup like this is the control it gives you. There’s no wind messing with the veil, no uneven ground to worry about, no “is the light going to shift in ten minutes?” anxiety. You walk in, the space is ready, and you just shoot. The ceiling height alone changes how a room photographs you get that sense of openness even in a candid, mid-laugh moment.
Cocktail hour gave everyone a breather before the reception, and the transition into the dance floor felt natural no awkward lull, no “what are we supposed to do now” energy. The shift from ceremony space to reception is one of those quiet moments that’s easy to overlook, but it’s where a lot of the best photos happen. People are loosening up, drinks are in hand, and the energy shifts from formal to genuine.
What Made It Work
